About Me

About Me

Hey, I'm Piotr

I'm a software engineer based near Warsaw, Poland. I've been working professionally with Ruby since 2022, building and optimizing web applications. But my path into tech has been anything but linear.

Before transitioning to backend development, I spent eight years in Motion Graphics Design. During that time, I created animations for various animated TV shows and eventually grew into a team leadership role, managing creative teams and overseeing production workflows.

I studied Computer Science at Warsaw University of Technology and later pursued Graphics at WIT University. The combination of technical and creative backgrounds gives me a slightly different perspective on problem-solving.

What I do now

These days I focus on Ruby—building new features, improving performance, and sometimes rescuing applications that need some extra care. I enjoy digging into complex problems, whether that means optimizing database queries or untangling legacy code.

Beyond coding, I have solid experience in team leadership and project management from my motion graphics years. I also have a genuine interest in the business side of things—strategy, finance, even taxes. Yes, I'm the kind of person who finds tax optimization interesting.

I'm open to business collaborations, whether that's development work, consulting, or helping teams level up. If you have something interesting in mind, I'd love to hear about it.

Outside of work

When I'm not at my desk, I like to work with my hands. There's something satisfying about fixing things around the house or spending a weekend tinkering with old cars. I'm not restoring classic vehicles to showroom condition—it's more about understanding how things work and keeping them running.

I love traveling, especially road trips. There's no better way to explore than having the freedom to stop wherever looks interesting and change plans on a whim.

Living near Warsaw means I get the best of both worlds—quiet countryside life at home but easy access to the city for tech meetups, board game nights, and the occasional Magic: The Gathering session.

Fun fact

I managed to set my car on fire during my bachelor party. We had to adjust our honeymoon plans after that. It makes for a good story now, though at the time it was... memorable.

At the end of the day, I'm just a nerd who enjoys his life—the code, the cars, and the curiosity about how everything works. And honestly, that's a pretty good place to be. :)
